Task 3 - Media & Techniques

Study 1

Study 2

Study 3

These images show three samples of mini beasts design with mixed media.

For my first drawing I used Water Colour and Oil Pastel. To make the patterns I first applied oil pastel to the drawing and then applied water colour on top of the oil pastel so it would be resisted and make the pattern stand out. I chose these colours to make the bug look different to any other bug.

For my second drawing I used water colour and felt tip. First I applied the felt tip and then I applied the water colour to make the drawing look smooth and clean. This mixed media design is good as the bug could easily blend in with foresty environments.

For my third drawing I used oil pastel, oil and a cocktail stick. I used the oil pastel to get the base colour of the bug, and then with the cocktail stick I started scratching away at the bug to give it a better look. Then I applied oil to the design, the oil was used mainly to cover any edges or sides that I missed with the oil pastel so there are no white areas on the bug.
